About Momma Bear Books

Where all things are pawsible

“Always start with a story from the heart,” ~~~ Momma Bear

Momma Bear lives deep in the woods of Maine with her two young cubs. Three older cubs left the den some time ago in search of their own honey pots and trees to climb. She’s proud of the bears they’ve become. When Momma Bear is not busy writing stories, she enjoys baking yummy cookies and pies, frolicking through fields of clover, and catching brook trout at a local watering hole. She always uses a fishing pole and not her paws.

A special Note for Parents,

caregivers, and educators:

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how often do we think about the value of a single word? A word can ignite the imagination and invite the question, “What does that mean?” For me, that word was “prudent.” I grew up on a 250-acre farm in the middle of farm country. My grandmother had an impressive vocabulary and often used words that I didn’t recognize. I would ask her what they meant and, for some reason, “prudent” stuck with me. Big words can have a big impact. That’s why I include obscure, challenging, or older words in my writing. These words empower kids to ask questions and think beyond a level. My hope is that some of these quirky little gems will stick with them forever.
